2018 National TAP Conference

The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching will hold its 18th Annual National TAP Conference in Washington, D.C., on Friday, March 23 - Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center at National Harbor. 

The National TAP Conference is a dynamic gathering of practitioners, policymakers, federal, state and district administrators, organizations, foundations and businesses who play a key role in the implementation of TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement and other educator effectiveness best practices across the country.

The conference is a powerful venue, both for those new to and experienced in NIET's initiatives, to learn more about them in practice and their roles on the national pulse of advancing educator effectiveness.

Attendees will experience a range of opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of NIET's systems of teacher leadership, professional development, educator evaluation and performance-based compensation, as well as network with other participants.

In addition to practitioner-focused breakout sessions, trainings and hands-on workshops, the TAP conference will connect NIET's proven principles to critical issues facing America's K-12 system today. 

2017 TAP Summer Institute

The 2017 TAP Summer Institute (TSI) took place June 15-16, 2017, at the Omni Dallas Hotel. It provided a unique summer training experience for leaders and educators across the country.

Training sessions offered in-depth professional development for school leadership teams to:

  • Plan for successful school implementation
  • Build knowledge around key aspects of successful TAP and Educator Effectiveness practices
  • Expand networking opportunities to enhance understanding of critical structures and learn from others in the field

Throughout the institute, school- and district-based teams collaborated on preparing their own data and planning for the upcoming school year.

The National TAP Conference is a dynamic gathering of practitioners, policymakers, federal, state and district administrators, organizations, foundations and businesses who play a key role in the implementation of TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement and other educator effectiveness best practices across the country.

2016 National TAP Conference

The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching held its 16th Annual National TAP Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Friday, March 18 - Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. 

The National TAP Conference is a dynamic gathering of practitioners, policymakers, federal, state and district administrators, organizations, foundations and businesses who play a key role in the implementation of TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement across the country.

The conference is a powerful venue, both for those new to and experienced in TAP, to learn more about TAP in practice and its role on the national pulse of advancing educator effectiveness.

Attendees experienced a range of opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of TAP's systems of teacher leadership, professional development, educator evaluation and performance-based compensation, as well as network with other TAP participants.

In addition to practitioner-focused breakout sessions, trainings and hands-on workshops, the TAP conference featured a national plenary panel, moderated by NIET Chairman and TAP Founder Lowell Milken, to connect TAP's proven principles to critical issues facing America's K-12 system today. 

Southport Elementary School in Perry Township Schools, Indiana, won the prestigious TAP Founder's Award. The Indianapolis school's student achievement levels have soared even while experiencing significantly increased numbers of English Language Learners (ELLs) and high poverty rates. The award includes a $50,000 prize to be used toward continuing to improve classroom teaching and student success.

2015 TAP Summer Institutes (TSIs)

TAP Summer Institute (TSI) trainings offer in-depth professional development to TAP Leadership Teams to systematically strengthen their skills and the effectiveness of TAP System implementation.

In summer 2015, the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching held two TSI trainings—a TSI East for South Carolina participants and a TSI West for all other locations.

TSI East was held at the Charleston Marriott in Charleston, South Carolina, on Monday, July 13­–Wednesday, July 15, 2015

Attendees enjoyed a range of opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of TAP's career advancement, professional development, teacher evaluation and performance-based compensation, as well as network with other TAP participants. In addition to practitioner-focused breakout sessions, trainings and hands-on workshops, the TAP conference included a national plenary panel, moderated by NIET Chairman and TAP Founder Lowell Milken, which tied TAP's proven reforms to critical issues facing America's K-12 system today.

2014 National TAP Summer Institute

The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching held its 2014 TAP Summer Institute (TSI) in Phoenix, Arizona, on Monday, June 23 - Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa.

The 2014 TSI offered in-depth training to TAP Leadership Teams nationwide—principals and master and mentor teachers—on how to systematically strengthen their skills and the effectiveness of their TAP implementation. Participants delved into and refined the implementation of key components of the TAP System including:

  • Assessment Plans;
  • Cluster;
  • Leadership Teams; and
  • Student Work

2014 TAP Conference

The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching held its 14th Annual National TAP Conference in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, California, on Friday, March 7 - Saturday, March 8, 2014, at the JW Marriott L.A. LIVE Hotel.

The National TAP Conference is a dynamic gathering of practitioners, policymakers, federal, state and district administrators, organizations, foundations and businesses involved with the implementation of TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement across the country. The conference is a powerful venue, both for those new to and experienced in TAP, to learn more about TAP in practice and its role on the national pulse of innovative education reform.

2013 National TAP Summer Institutes (TSIs)

Phoenix, Arizona, June 17 - June 19, 2013
Indianapolis, Indiana, July 8 - July 10, 2013

The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching held the 2013 National TAP Summer Institutes (TSIs) in Phoenix, Arizona, June 17 - June 19, 2013, and in Indianapolis, Indiana, July 8 - 10, 2013. The 2013 TSIs offered in-depth training to TAP Leadership Teams nationwide—principals and master and mentor teachers—on how to systematically strengthen their skills and the effectiveness of their TAP implementation.

Participants delved into and refined key TAP practices including implementing clusters above proficient; incorporating the Common Core State Standards into the TAP system; presenting Common Core in the building; leading high-quality and impactful TAP Leadership Team meetings; high-impact coaching; participating in leadership team long-range planning; planning for rubric cycle 1; developing school goals; and participating in individual cluster, TAP Leadership Team and coaching opportunities.

2013 National TAP Conference

The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) held its 13th Annual National TAP Conference, TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement, in Washington, D.C., on Friday, March 8 - Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center.

The National TAP Conference is an important gathering of practitioners, policymakers, state and district administrators, organizations, foundations and businesses—who are bringing the TAP system's powerful advances in teaching and learning to communities throughout the country.

Participants benefited from a range of opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of TAP's career advancement, professional development, teacher evaluation and performance-based compensation systems, as well as network with fellow TAP educators from across the U.S.

In addition to practitioner-driven breakout sessions, trainings and hands-on workshops, the TAP conference featured a special presentation by Keynote Speaker and NIET Chairman and Founder Lowell Milken. Plenary panels connected TAP's proven reforms to national efforts to improve teacher effectiveness and the American K-12 system at large.
