Dr. Patrice Pujol, who has recently joined National Institute for Excellence in Teaching as president of services and partnerships, is the former superintendent of Ascension Parish Schools in Louisiana. Pujol is a 39-year educator who has long been at the forefront of school and district improvement efforts. Pujol was principal of St. Amant High School, where she used innovative scheduling models to drive improved teaching and learning. Pujol has served as director of secondary schools, director of school improvement, and assistant superintendent for Ascension Parish Schools.

Innovations led by Pujol include the instructional coach program, districtwide curriculum framework with benchmark assessments and leadership assessment and development program. Pujol’s district has implemented a robust plan to provide one-to-one computing devices to all students in order to transform the learning experience. Pujol and her team created a Turnaround Zone to redirect concentrated support for the lowest-performing schools in their district. All Turnaround Zone schools use TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement, while the other schools in the district are Best Practice Center schools. Pujol's career has been dedicated to improving teaching and learning to assure that students receive a rigorous education to prepare them for success in a global society. The American Association of School Administrators named Pujol as one of the top four superintendents in the country for 2015.
