As superintendent of Perry Township Schools in Indianapolis, Indiana, Patrick Mapes has led efforts to improve instructional quality and student academic performance, resulting in NIET's Award of Excellence for Educator Effectiveness in 2018. Mapes has worked in public education for 32 years, both at the local and state level. He has served as a classroom teacher, building-level administrator, central office administrator and state department administrator. During his time at the Indiana Department of Education, Mapes was part of the largest education reform movement in Indiana under State Superintendent Dr. Tony Bennett. The reform was student-focused with an emphasis on teacher quality and accountability. Mapes holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Bell State University.
