Kyle Kovach joined NIET as a senior specialist for the East team after spending the previous 12 years serving the students and families of the Parker/Woodside community of West Greenville, South Carolina. In his most recent role, Kyle served as the elementary principal of a Title I charter school whose mission was to ensure a "to-and-through" college pathway for all students. He has also served in various other roles including a physical education and third grade teacher, TAP mentor and master teacher, and assistant principal.

During his time in West Greenville, Kyle supported a team of educators who increased the school's value-added (student achievement growth) score from a 1 to a 4, steadily raised MAP growth scores across all grade levels and subjects, and successfully implemented high-quality curriculum in both English language arts and math.  Through this experience he has found that the key to student growth is adult growth, and has a passion for developing the instructional capacity of all those who work in education.

Kyle completed his undergraduate work at Elon University and holds master's degrees from The Citadel and the University of South Carolina.

Why are you passionate about working at NIET?

I am passionate about working at NIET because of its emphasis on ensuring an equitable and high-quality education for all children regardless of zip code, socioeconomic status, or school zone. NIET's work and research on improving outcomes for students through the development of the instructional practices of teachers and leaders is directly in line with my "why."

What was your favorite subject in school and why?

My favorite subject was English. I love that a group of people can read the same text and develop very different meanings and insights based on their personal lens. This can lead to great discourse which leaves everyone with a deeper understanding not only of the text or topic but of each other.
