Devon Willis-Jones' dedication to the education profession spans over 15 years. Prior to joining the NIET team as a senior specialist for Louisiana, Devon served as principal of Jeanerette Elementary School in Iberia Parish, Louisiana, for seven years. During her tenure, Devon accepted the responsibility to improve a failing school with an F rating. She created a thriving learning environment at Jeanerette Elementary grounded in student success: In her first year as principal the school earned a B rating and was labeled a "Top Gains" school by the State of Louisiana, erasing the stigma that had dogged her community for years. Never complacent, Devon pushed the school to maintain its B rating the following school years, despite new assessments. She also served as a master teacher and special education classroom teacher in Iberia Parish.

Devon is a 2016 Milken Educator. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Master of Education in educational leadership from Trident University.

Why are you passionate about working at NIET?

As a master teacher and principal, I found great joy in growing educators in their professional practices. I loved building their capacity in planning, data analysis, and best practices. As a senior program specialist at NIET, I'm allowed to do that same work on a larger scale.

What do you do in your free time?

During my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, watching movies, and reading "cheesy" romance novels.
