Why I am passionate about working at NIET?

I am energized by the opportunity to work each day toward improving a child’s future by empowering teachers with the training, skills and support systems they need to deliver the highest quality education. I believe that investing in teachers creates a lasting impact not only by strengthening the classroom experience, but by giving more students the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed.

Who is your favorite teacher?

Throughout my education, I was fortunate to have several exceptional teachers who encouraged my curiosity and love of learning. Two in particular stand out: Mr. Wayne Johnson of Lindero Canyon Middle School and Mr. Doug Litten of Agoura High School.

Mr. Johnson taught U.S. History with enthusiasm and optimism. He encouraged lively debate while fostering our curiosity and challenged us with unique learning experiences beyond the textbook. Mr. Litten taught AP English and had an amazing ability to bring classic literature to life and connect it to the world around us. He challenged us to look beyond the stories themselves and consider the human condition and what we could learn about ourselves and others through the characters and their experiences. Beyond preparing me academically for college, he also helped me navigate the college application process, serving as both an advocate and mentor.

I would also be remiss not to mention Coach Steve Capretta, (“Mr. C”) also of Lindero Canyon Middle School. Always positive and enthusiastic, he encouraged me to try out for my high school swim team, which became an invaluable experience and taught me lessons that extended well beyond the pool.

What was your favorite subject in school and why?

My favorite subjects were math and US History. I enjoyed the challenge and structure of math as well as learning how to solve problems. I found U.S. History and the pioneering spirit fascinating and believe there is great value in understanding the lessons of our past.
