Siyun Gan is passionate about doing research that serves students, especially those who are underserved. She has six years of experience working with large-scale education data to surface mechanisms and patterns that shape students' educational attitudes and outcomes.

Prior to joining NIET, Siyun's work mostly focused on the role of students' stratification beliefs (what they believe drives success or failure in society) in shaping their educational trajectories. She also has a line of work in immigration and education where she examines how origin and destination country contexts jointly shape immigrant students' outcomes.

Siyun has an MA in International Education from New York University and is completing her PhD in Educational Policy Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
