Most Tennessee Teachers Say Evaluations Help Them Improve Their Instruction

A statewide survey of teachers released in the fall of 2025 by the Tennessee Department of Education showed that teachers increasingly find their evaluations helpful in improving their instruction. Historically, evaluation systems have had their issues - infrequent, no feedback, and little evidence - but Tennessee’s comprehensive approach is showing success.

TDOE reported,  “Over 8 in 10 teachers and 9 in 10 early-career teachers agreed that teacher evaluation helps them improve their teaching.”

This report comes more than 15 years after Tennessee established a student outcomes-based, state-wide educator evaluation system that provides frequent observation and feedback to support every teacher to grow and improve. NIET supported the development, pilot, and rollout of the Tennessee Educator Acceleration Model (TEAM) evaluation system, training teachers and leaders statewide to provide high-quality observation and feedback that continues to make an impact statewide today.
