Theresa D. Hamilton

Theresa Hamilton oversees NIET's statewide initiatives and at-large partnerships in our South Central Region, and is a central point of contact for NIET's Louisiana higher education partnerships. Prior to this position, she supported East Feliciana and Madison Parish School Systems as an NIET senior specialist.

Theresa joined NIET with over 20 years of experience as an elementary and middle school teacher and school principal in the Natchitoches Parish School System in Louisiana. She also has over ten years of experience at the district level, serving in the positions of supervisor of federal programs, chief desegregation implementation officer, and as chief academic officer for Tangipahoa Parish School System. Most recently, she worked at the state level in the area of school improvement as an education program consultant for the Louisiana Department of Education.

Theresa holds a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Southern University and master's and +30 in educational administration from Northwestern State University, which also includes certification in guidance counseling. She has completed coursework in pursuit of a Doctorate of Education in educational leadership from Louisiana Tech University.

Why are you passionate about working at NIET? 

I am passionate about working for NIET because of its mission of ensuring that a highly skilled teacher is in every classroom. I value and know the impact of caring and motivated teachers in a child's life.

Who is your favorite teacher?

My favorite teacher was Mrs. VanBuren who was my first-grade teacher and made me believe I could do and be anything.

What do you do in your free time?

I enjoy retail therapy in my free time. I love finding bargains and sharing my finds with family and friends.
