NSI 2021 Lunch Session: How Does the World Change for Teachers and Students as We Recover from COVID-19?

At the 2021 NIET Summer Institute, NIET CEO Dr. Candice McQueen, Stanford University's Dr. Eric Hanushek, and Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) Member Dr. Holly Boffy participate in a discussion on the current education landscape, teacher effectiveness, and the potential impact of deepening instruction to foster student ownership.

Specifically, the panelists talked about what needs to happen to change the trajectory for students who have experienced disrupted learning over the past 18 months. One of the leading questions was reconsidering how we support and equip teachers as we recover from the pandemic to ultimately strengthen instruction.

Key reflections included leveraging teacher talents to reach every student, supporting teachers at scale to lead with a growth mindset, and recognizing the positive, long-term impact of reaching student ownership of learning.
